Personal Profile Monika Englund
I was born on April 6th 1973, in Krylbo, Sweden. My Swedish father was a police officer and my German mother worked as an assistant nurse.
After nine-year compulsory school I chose the technical program in upper secondary school in Avesta. After the examination for the General Certificate of Education I moved to Umeå in the north of Sweden and started my electrical engineering studies at the University of Umeå. After some time, I decided to apply for the Swedish police college in Solna, just north of Stockholm and as I got accepted I decided to break off my studies in Umeå.
After my exam at the police college in 1996, I got employed at the Police Department in the County of Västerbotten and started working as a police officer in Umeå. Additionally, I studied law and pedagogic at the University of Umeå.
My language skills combined with my other knowledge were conclusive as I as one of ten Swedish police officers was chosen to take an active part in an international project during the world exhibition EXPO 2000 in Hanover, Germany. The project "Foreign Police Officers at the EXPO 2000" was financed and realized as an EU-project with the object of improving and expanding international police cooperation, especially between the European countries.
In August 2001 I moved to Germany. As my Swedish police education is not accepted in Germany, I decided to deepen my language skills and applied for the University of Hildesheim, Germany. I began my studies "International Communication and Translation" and got my Bachelor degree in May 2005. I continued my education with "Language and Engineering" and attained my Masters Degree in April 2007.
